Compounding is the art and science of preparing customized medications for patients. The practice dates back to the very begining of the pharmacy profession.  However, compounding became a thing of the past when prescribed medications began being massively produced and manufactured by pharmaceutical companies.

Within the last few decades, though, the need for compounding has increased as the manufactured drugs do not meet the needs of all patients individually.  With new technologies and new techniques, pharmacist are able to make customized medications to meet specific patient need.
